Training & Development

Training and Development of staff is an ongoing process. It is regarded as necessary and normal if the Company is to develop, having regard to the fact that our early years were spent in traditional Main Contractor/Sub Contractor involvement producing basic metalworks such as fire escape systems, fencing, gates and secondary metalworks.
We recognise and honour the need for training and re-training, for the company could not continue to move forward, as we have done over the past decade, nor could we satisfy the ever increasing demands of the Industry during the same period.
The advent of Management Contracting and Construction Management in its varied forms, placing more responsibility upon sub-contractors with packages becoming more comprehensive, and in our case more "up market", creates the need for contractual awareness, more technical expertise and clearly defined areas of responsibility such as planning and programming, project managing, quality control and Health and Safety awareness.

To move into this area of involvement, to which our total output is now devoted, required a re-think and re-structure from Estimators, Draughtsmen, Buyer, Shop Manager and Site Supervisors.

We now employ a marketing, sales and estimating team, skilled in contractual awareness and the need to cover costs associated with protection of works, design, full compliance with specifications etc and project managers who plan and co-ordinate the work through design, detailed drafting, procurement, the letting of sub-contract elements, production and erection as well as liaising with the Management Contractor and client through the usual site meeting channels.

Quality Control is managed by a full time, stand-alone, Q.C. Manager who provides all necessary documentation as required in the final analysis.
Health & safety matters are also dealt with "in-house" by a full time team under the direct control of the M.D. Worksafe Partnership are retained as consultants and safety auditors.
We have reached this point in the companies development by recruiting skills we did not have or by training existing staff to understand and control the work load as now presented by the new challenge of almost total dependence upon Management Contracting or the like.

The installation of a C.A.D. system was started upon in 1992 with the re-training of just one traditional style draughtsman. We now have 9 workplace C.A.D. systems with purpose made macro packages added, an ISDN2 line with Shiva Access Port. modem and E. Mail / Internet addresses.

All operators have been trained by the company through Autocad agencies.

Likewise our estimators and project managers receive training and updates on all aspects of contractual awareness and our Quality Control and Health and Safety staff have been instructed in their particular roles.
Apart from the need to instruct for our change of involvement the company takes and trains school leavers in our technical department and our workshop backed up with day release courses as appropriate.
